In these harsh economic times you do not need to spend money getting somebody to come fix your garage door because it is something that anybody can handle.

There are two pieces that go into making a garage door. The first of these is the mechanical piece without which opening and closing the door would be impossible. In this case, these would be some metallic tracks that you can spot on the garage walls. They are normally controlled by a number of springs.

On these tracks is where the door is supposed to move.

To repair your garage door, there are three actions that you can take. Step one is to assess the metal tracks. These are always in motion so chances are they are the ones causing the problem.

Assess the brackets that attach the metal tracks to the garage walls. If they are loose then all that you have to do is tighten up their bolts and screws. If they are totally damaged however then you will have to buy new ones and replace them.

The next thing that you have to do is to assess the track alignment. They are the ones that allow the door to roll in place.

The horizontal track should always be at a lower angle than the back tracks. If they are not aligned then once again, loosen the screws and bolts, align them and then tighten them once again.

Another problem that you may have with your garage door is the springs. If they have just been over stretched then what you can do is to move their hook a bit further up so that they are back to working properly. If they are totally bent out of shape then you will have no other choice but to replace them with some new ones.
